"Caballos Salvajes"
(Wild Horses)
1995
Directed by
Marcelo Pineyro
An improbable duo gets swept unexpectedly into a
bank heist in this engaging and satirical comedy from Argentina. A
70-year-old self-proclaimed anarchist (Hector Alterio) and a young bank
teller (Leonardo Sbaraglia) hit the road with $500,000 in-pocket after a
frenzied, confusing scene. As they rocket through rural Argentina in an
effort to escape the law, they discover that by influencing the media they
can be seen as "Bonnie & Clyde" types rather than violent criminals.
Balancing media satire with buoyant romanticism, director Marcelo Pineyro
manages to hit all the right notes, foreshadowing the success he would
find with Cenizas del Paraiso. In Spanish WITHOUT English
subtitles. 132
minutes. |
