"Julio Begins in July (Julio
Comienza en Julio)"
Directed by Silvio Caiozzi
This film, made during the Pinochet dictatorship,
was made by Silvio Caiozzi, considered one of Chile's greatest directors.
Despite the ever-present threat of censorship during this time, he was
able to create this lyrical and beautiful epic, mirroring the repressive
times with a turn-of-the-20th century story about the unbridled power of a
ruthless landowner, his horrendous treatment of the local church, and the
deepening conflicts with his 15-year old son who falls in love with a
prostitute his father sent to him on his birthday. Spanish with English
