"Suddenly"
2002
Directed by Diego Lerman
Part of an exciting new wave of fresh, inventive films
coming out of Argentina, Diego Lerman's Suddenly follows a frustrated
sales girl (Tatiana Saphir) who falls in with a fesity pair of punk lesbians
named Mao and Lenin (Carla Crespo and Veronica Hassan). The trio hit the
road on a capricious adventure that has them car-jacking taxis, shoplifting,
and seeing the ocean for the first time. Lerman doesn't try to explain his
characters vagaries, but demonstrates the importance of human connection
through their actions. "Suddenly is a sullen, apathetic
black-and-white road movie not to be missed" (Jeffrey M. Anderson, San
Francisco Examiner). In Spanish with English subtitles.
