The past catches up with two men, a Jewish emigrant
composer Hermann Geburtig and the German journalist Konrad Sachs, in this
award-winning tale. While Geburtig is being persuaded by a Viennese
journalist to return to his hometown and give evidence in court against a
former concentration camp supervisor, Sachs is forced to finally face the
agonizing reality that he is the son of a high-ranking SS doctor. German
