"Waydowntown"
2000
Directed by
Gary Burns
In this hilarious send-up of urban planning and
cubicle life, a group of office worker friends bet a month's salary to see
who can stay indoors the longest. What enables the challenge to turn into
a drawn-out exercise is the fact that their downtown workplace is part of
an interconnected maze of office towers, shopping malls, and apartment
buildings. What they don't anticipate is a 21st century case of cabin
fever. Canadian filmmaker Gary Burns' comedy is a smart and effective
satire in the same vein as Office Space and The Office.
Winner for Best Canadian Feature Film at the 2000 Toronto International
Film Festival and The Toronto Film Critics Association. 83 minutes. |
