After his mother is murdered, a 12-year-old boy must go to live with his estranged father (Danny Lee), an alcoholic ex-cop wallowing in self-pity. Under the influence of the young boy, Lee begins to clean himself up and starts investigating the murder of his ex-wife, assisted by a couple of detectives who have also taken an interest in the boy's welfare, in this well-crafted picture.
