"Mifune"
1999
Directed by Soren Kragh-Jacobsen
Shortly after marrying
his employer's daughter, a businessman is informed of the death of his own
father. After arriving back at the farm home of his youth, he tries to
care for his retarded brother while a relationship blossoms with a new
housekeeper--who also happens to be a prostitute in hiding. This third
film made under the "Dogma 95" manifesto upholds the rules of
the first two (Thomas Vinterberg's The Celebration and Lars von
Trier's The Idiots), using only natural lighting, real locations,
synchronized sound and hand-held camera work to ensure its authenticity.
"A dazzling, post-modern screwball romance" (Joe Morgenstern, The
Wall Street Journal). Danish with English subtitles.
102 minutes. |
