"Twist and Shout / Zappa"
1983/1984
Directed by Bille August
Bille August (Smilla's Sense of Snow) brings
great insight to the problems of growing up in these two memorable
coming-of-age films. Twist and Shout (1984, 108 mins.), one of the
best films about adolescence, follows four teenagers who grapple with
their conflicting feeling towards each other amidst the social changes of
the early 1960's. August's acclaimed Zappa (1983, 103 mins.), the
prelude to Twist and Shout, looks at three Copenhagen teens who
find escape from their unhappy home lives through shoplifting, sexual
experimentation and violence. Both films in Danish with English subtitles.
211 minutes. |
