"The Dinner Game"
1998
Directed by Francis Veber

A wealthy publisher (Thierry Lhermitte) and his equally prosperous friends compete in a cruel game in which the object is to find the sorriest, most obnoxious guest possible. The impossibly irritating Francois (Jacques Villeret) seems like a sure victory, but as the publisher's life falls apart, he begins to feel far less superior. "Veber doesn't let anything run on; he keeps people moving in and out of doors like bouncing balls, the plot flying along, the ironic epiphanies mounting up. It's a small jewel of precision" (Stephen Hunter, Washington Post). French with English subtitles.  81 minutes.
