"Four Adventures of Reinette and Mirabelle"
1986
Directed by Eric Rohmer

In many ways, Rohmer's most offbeat film since 1978's Perceval. The film centers on the relationship between two young women: Reinette, a naive but talented painter from the provinces, and Mirabelle, a worldly Parisian student who meets Reinette during summer vacation and invites her to share an apartment during the upcoming school year. The narrative is partitioned into the four segments of the title, each one yielding a graceful epiphany and playing upon a central theme of the perils of idealism. A delightful comedy enhanced by Rohmer's customary richness of characterization. French with English subtitles.
95 minutes.
