Directed by Cedric Kahn
Based on Alberto Moravia's novel La Noia, this
smart, sexy film combines a dramatic contemplation of the male mid-life
crisis with some unexpected humor and some rather explicit loves scenes.
Charles Berling plays a writer and philosophy teacher who becomes
increasingly obsessed with a teenaged model who, despite their intimate
relationship, seems nearly indifferent to his attention. "...mesmerizes us
as we watch as an intelligent, attractive man willingly sows the seeds of
his own destruction. One recalls Godard's Contempt (adapted from a
Moravia novel) and Visconti's Ossessione (scripted by Moravia)" (Film
Society of Lincoln Center). French with English subtitles.
