"Late August, Early September"
1999
Directed by Olivier Assayas
In this drama a group of young Parisians, connected by
their friendship with an older writer, grapple with life's difficulties
after learning the writer is terminally ill. Confronting relationship
complexities, general insecurities and, of course, their fear of mortality,
the characters examine their place in the world. Mathieu Amalric, Jeanne
Balibar, Francois Cluzet and Virginie Ledoyen star. "...the film is so
deeply transformative that it catches the audience in its grip and, slowly
but ineluctably, makes us take its lessons to heart" (B. Ruby Rich, San
Francisco Bay Guardian). French with English subtitles.
112 minutes. |
