Directed by Claude Chabrol
One of the great
Chabrol early films; Charles (Gerard Blain), a student from the provinces, comes to Paris
to live with his sophisticated, bullying cousin Paul, falls in love with Florence, but she
becomes Paul's mistress. During their examinations, Paul passes effortlessly while Charles
fails, and Charles accidentally kills Paul after trying to kill him. An ingenious,
brilliant portrayal of student life in Paris, with great cinematography by Henri Decae.
French with English subtitles.
