"Little World of Don Camillo
& Return
of Don Camillo"
1952/1953
Directed by Julien Duvivier
Two European comedy classics directed by Julien
Duvivier and starring beloved French actor Fernandel. In Don Camillo
(1952, 107 minutes), Fernandel plays the fiery Catholic priest who
grapples with the Communist mayor (Gino Cervi) over the fate of their
small town in the Po Valley. Then in the second installment of the Don
Camillo series, The Return of Don Camillo (1953, 115 minutes),
the priest gets expelled from his village after a clash with the mayor.
After relocating he quickly finds himself at the center of a new power
struggle with a wealthy landowner. A sensitive and comedic view of the
social and political forces at odds in post-war Italy. Italian with
English subtitles.
222 minutes. |
