Also known as Confidential Report, Orson
Welles' gothic work concerns the suppression of memory and the past.
Welles plays an idiosyncratic and flamboyant tycoon who hires a
researcher to investigate his elusive past. The man uncovers a string of
killings and deaths. It's an elaborate puzzle, shot in a fragmented,
elliptical manner. Welles scholar Jonathan Rosenbaum reports as many as
eight different versions of the film exist. With Michael Redgrave,
Patricia Medina, Paola Mori, Akim Tamiroff, Mischa Auer and Robert
Arden. 105 minutes.
