"That Man From Rio"

Philippe de Broca's caper comedy is a parody of '60s Cold War thrillers. Jean-Paul Belmondo plays an air force pilot who pursues a double agent and thief from Paris to Rio to dense jungles of the Amazon in search of a valuable statuette. "Fantasy takes over, and Belmondo [outdoes] Fairbanks in agility, Lloyd in cliffhanging, and Bond in indestructibility" (Brenda Davies, Monthly Film Bulletin). Music by Georges Delerue. With Jean Servais, Francoise Dorleac Adolfo Celi and Simone Renant. B&W, French with English subtitles, 120 minutes.
