A Hitchcockian study of erotic intrigue is freely adapted from a Patricia Highsmith novel. The practical, quiet loner David (Gerard Depardieu) builds an elaborate mountain chalet to seduce Lise (Dominique Laffin), a married woman with whom he's fallen obsessively in love. David rejects the legitimate and honest love of Juliette (Miou-Miou), with tragic repercussions. Former Truffaut and Godard protege Claude Miller charts these emotions with sureness of touch.
