"Daughters of Darkness"
1971
Directed by Harry Kumel
This classic, cult
vampire favorite, originally cut by more than 12 minutes, is restored to the full film
that director Harry Kumel intended. A pair of newlyweds stop at a posh French hotel and
encounter the Scarlet Countess (Delphine Seyrig), a stunning and seductive woman who,
according to the hotel owner, hasn't aged a day in 40 years. Before long, the couple's
innocent intrigue leads them into a sexually charged game of cat and mouse as the
mysterious countess turns deadly. "Subtle, stately, stunningly colored and
exquisitely directed
. The most artistic vampire shocker since Blood and Roses"
(The New York Times). With Andrea Rau, Danielle Ouimet and John Karlen.
A Belgian, French, German Federal Republic co-production. In English.
100 minutes. |
