"Faust"
1926
Directed by F.W. Murnau

Murnau's last German production before going to Hollywood is a lavish one, inspired by Romantic painters like Caspar David Friedrich. Gosta Ekman is the elderly professor who sells his soul to the devil, Emil Jannings plays Mephistopholes and Camilla Horn is Marguerite. This version is mastered from the best available 35mm archive materials. Music track by Timothy Brock, performed by the Olympia Chamber Orchestra. Silent with  English intertitles. Includes UFA Studios 1925: The Making of Faust (photo essay) and a 1500-word essay by scholar Jan Christopher Horak illustrated with original color poster art.  117 minutes.
