"Liebelei"

the reputation for Max Ophuls, based on a play by Arthur Schnitzler; the

baroness. The military code requires a duel, the lieutenant is killed, and
the girl throws herself out the window in despair. "Ophuls' magical
adaptation of Schnitzler's mordant love play is a lament to lost innocence,
transported by Ophuls' moving camera into the mystical regions of
remembrance" (NY Film Festival). German with English subtitles.
