"Meteor and Shadow"
1985
Directed by Takis Spetsiotis
The rise and fall of the great Greek poet Napoleon
Lapathiotis is dramatized in this exceptionally well-acted feature. The film
poignantly portrays the poet's turbulent life as a communist sympathizer,
his struggles with drug addiction, and his openly gay lifestyle, which
caused a scandal in the conservative society of Athens. Director Takis
Spetsiotis "has avoided the cliches of the typical film biography. Instead
he has fashioned a fascinating portrait of Lapathiotis that both celebrates
his life and stylishly depicts his tragic fall" (Planet Out). Greek
with English subtitles. 101 minutes. |
