"Two Daughters"
1961
Directed by Satyajit Ray
Two wonderfully ironic
stories by Ray dealing with the emancipation of women. In the first, a young university
graduate rejects his pre-selected bride to marry the village tomboy, who protests. The
hero, who does not want to marry a woman he doesn't love, denies the same choice to the
girl he does want for his bride. Based on stories by Tagore. With Soumitra Chatterjee,
Aparna Das Gupta and Anil Chatterjee. Bengali with English subtitles.
114 minutes. |
