"It's Winter"

The third feature by Iranian filmmaker Rafi Pitts is a
"delicate cinematic poem" (Variety) about three residents of Tehran,
each working towards a better future. It's Winter, or Zemestan,
follows Mokhtar and his wife, Khatoun, over the course of a year. Barely
able to make a living on the impoverished outskirts of the city, Mokhtar
decides to leave in search of opportunities abroad. As the days pass without
his return, an unemployed mechanic named Marhab spots Khatoun in a market
and attempts to win her affections. Based on a novel by Mahmoud Dowlatabadi.
Nominated for the Golden Berlin Bear at the 2006 Berlin Film Festival. Farsi
with English subtitles. 85 minutes. |
