"Dreams of Sparrows"
2005
Directed by Hayder Mousa Daffar
A first-time Iraqi director, Hayder Mousa Daffar,
leads a team of contributing filmmakers on a remarkable journey through
post-war, pre-reconstruction Baghdad. The team of six offers a raw and
unfiltered portrait of their conflicted city. In interviews and documentary
footage, the group attempts to reconcile their feelings of gratitude towards
Americans for relinquishing the stranglehold of Saddam Hussein and the
increasingly bleak and despairing post-war situation, in which one of their
Associate Producers joins the ranks of Iraqi civilians killed by U.S.
forces. A richly powerful and courageous work of documentary filmmaking.
English and Arabic with English subtitles. 85 minutes. |
