"Disco Pigs"
2001
Directed by Kirsten Sheridan
This debut film from Kirsten Sheridan, daughter of
Irish director Jim Sheridan, is a vivid, disturbing portrait of two
teenagers, nicknamed Pig and Runt. Born in the same hospital on the same
day, Pig and Runt share a near-telepathic bond and live in a shut-in,
make-believe world that is both innocent and fragile and violent and
destructive at the same time. As they grow older, their lives change
drastically when Runt desires her independence from an emotionally
unpredictable Pig. Elaine Cassidy and Cillian Murphy provide raw, energetic
performances as the two teens. "One of the most disturbing, unusual films
I've ever seen" (Christopher James The Times). 93
minutes. |
