"Omagh"
2004
Directed by Pete Travis
As Ireland prepares to
vote in the Good Friday referendum of 1998, a bomb rips through a market
square in the Northern Ireland town of Omagh, claiming the lives of 31
bystanders. Shot in a revealing verite-style, Pete Travis's extraordinary
film explores the frustration, rage, and despair of a middle-aged man
(Gerard McSorley) who loses his son in the explosion. Alternately scathing
and sensitive, Travis's film is "suspenseful, moving, and immensely
relevant to current affairs" (Human Rights Watch International Film
Festival). With Michele Forbes and Brenda Fricker.
105 minutes. |
