"A Tribute to Orson Welles"
1951
Directed by Hilton Edwards
This restored version of
Return to Glennascaul, an Irish ghost story directed by Gate
Theatre producer Hilton Edwards and starring Orson Welles, is introduced
by filmmaker and Welles specialist Peter Bogdanovich. Out of circulation
for over 40 years, the short film features Welles, playing himself, who,
while, driving home from the Dublin studio one foggy evening, offers a
ride to a man whose car has broken down. His passenger shares a spooky
anecdote about the night he stopped to assist a mother and daughter on the
same stretch of road and the eerie surprise that resulted from his
encounter.
