"Blaise Pascal"
1971
Directed by Roberto Rossellini

Generally considered the finest of Rossellini's series of history films, this finely detailed portrait of life in seventeenth century France was described by Rossellini as "the drama of a man who develops scientific thought which is in conflict with the dogmatism of his deep religious faith." Rossellini's portrait of the philosopher/scientist is also a speculation on the nature of knowledge, cultural development, substance, space and time. French with English subtitles.
131 minutes.
