"The Clowns"
1971
Directed by Federico Fellini
Fellini's homage to
circus clowns is in itself a clownish
spoof as it invades the screen with three rings of
slapstick, spectacle and sensation. "My films owe an enormous amount to the
circus," said Fellini. "For me the clowns were always a traumatic visual
experience, ambassadors of a vocation of a showman." This affectionate journey to the
root of Fellini's inspiration is comic and magically moving, with one of the best musical
scores by the great Nino Rota. Italian WITHOUT English subtitles.
90 minutes.
