"Fando and Lis"
1968
Directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky
In an outrageous, sometimes supremely absurd manner,
Jodorowsky tells the story (based on a play by Fernando Arrabal) of impotent
Fando and paralyzed Lis as they travel in search of the enchanted city of
Tar. On the road, they encounter various bizarre characters and
hallucinatory situations--a perfect storyline for the director's surreal,
sometimes shocking imagery. The rarely screened feature film debut of the
eccentric visionary Alejandro Jodorowsky. The film was heavily cut and
essentially abandoned by its distributor after upset audience members began
rioting following its premiere at the 1968 Acapulco Film Festival. Spanish with English subtitles. 95 minutes. |
