"La Perdicion de los Hombres"
2000
Directed by Arturo Ripstein
Arturo Ripstein's bizarre, pitch-black comedy takes
place largely at a police station, where three grieving widows show up to
claim a bigamist's dead body. When one of them finally wins it on a coin
flip, the motive for the man's brutal stoning is revealed. Winner of the
Golden Shell for "Best Film" at the 2000 San Sebastian Film Festival,
Ripstein's film swipes its title a famed Mexican song that posits women as
the cause of man's ruination. Spanish with English subtitles.
106 minutes. |
