This violent, sultry update of Sophocles' classic tale of patricide and incest was co-written by Nobel Prize-winner Gabriel Garcia Marquez (A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings). Set in modern-day Colombia, the drama revolves around a local mayor sent to a small town in the Andes to negotiate peace among guerrilla revolutionaries, peasants, and the Colombian army. A torrid romance with the prickly widow of a warlord sparks the young man's tragic downfall. The stunning cinematography of the lush Colombian landscape comes courtesy of acclaimed cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto (Brokeback Mountain, Babel). Spanish with English subtitles.  100 minutes.
