"The World's Fastest Indian"
2005
Directed by Roger Donaldson
In one of his finest
performances in years, Anthony Hopkins plays real-life speed demon Burt
Munro - the irrepressible kiwi who sets out to break the world's land speed
record at the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1967. Equipped with a 600cc Indian
model motorcycle he's souped up on a shoestring budget, Munro makes the
trip from Invercargill, New Zealand to sun-baked Utah with a
near-impossible goal in mind. Along the way, he's given a hand by a motley
assortment of friends, including an American driver (Chris Lawford), an
admiring widow (Diane Ladd), and others. "It's hard to resist the film's
pleasantly rambling narrative and market-defying eccentricity" (Village
Voice). 127 minutes. |
