"The Last Lieutenant"
1993
Directed by Hans Petter Moland
Just before the Nazi
invasion of Norway during World War II, a retired naval lieutenant
reenlists to defend his country. When he sees the weakness of his
country's resistance efforts, and with a national surrender seemingly
inevitable, he takes his own group of ragtag volunteers with him on one
last mission of freedom. "...(Espen) Skjonberg's lead performance is
impressive, the film avoids sentimentality, and the account of conflicting
notions of collaboration and nationalism is deftly handled" (Geoff
Andrew, Time Out Film Guide). Norwegian with English subtitles.
102 minutes.
