"Hijacking Agatha"
1993
Directed by Marek Piwowski
Leading an already strong cast in this coming-of-age story, Jerzy Stuhr (The
Decalogue) plays a handsome young musician, Gypsy, who busts out
of jail one week before his release. He blows into town, falls madly in
love with the 16-year-old daughter of a Communist hardliner, and hits the
road with her when her father doesn't approve. Based on an actual event
from the early 1990s in which the daughter of a Polish politician ran away
with her boyfriend. Capturing the end of the Solidarity era, "a true-life
farce was transformed into a grotesque vision of contemporary Poland" (The
Guardian) in Hijacking Agatha. Polish with English subtitles.
77 minutes.
