"The Burglar"
1988
Directed by Valeri Ogorodnikov
Music and the problems
of the young share center stage in this "punk" Soviet film.
Russian rock star Konstantin Kinchev plays the older of two brothers who
defiantly use Leningrad's budding punk culture as a haven for their
drunken dad and oppressive society. While much of the narrative rests on
the slender shoulders of the younger brother, Kinchev's charismatic
musical performance carry the picture's rebel yell against totalitarian
tedium. Russian with English subtitles. 101 minutes. |
