"Little Vera"
1988
Directed by Vassili Pitchul
A
seductive Russian film, made during the waning years of the Soviet
Union. Natalya Negoda plays Vera, a
sullen, sultry teenager who's torn between her brooding husband and her
bitter parents in a dead-end town. It portrays the rebellion of
Vera with simmering sensuality and brutal
candor. The film shows the realities of
the times with shortages, alcoholism and a sense of social drift.
Russian with English subtitles.
110
minutes.
