"Oblomov"
1980
Directed by Nikita Mikhalkov

Winner of the 1981 National Board of Review (USA) Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Nikita Mikhalkov (Dark Eyes, Slave of Love)  created this finely detailed adaptation of the famous novel written in 1858 by Ivan Goncharov. Oblomov owns 350 serfs he's never met, and chooses to live a listless, idle life, lazing in a St. Petersburg apartment, watching his finances dwindle and whining at his servant for not being sensitive enough. Russian with English subtitles.
145 minutes.
