"Antonieta"
1982
Directed by
Carlos Saura

Set in the early 20th century and contemporary France, this brooding drama stars Isabelle Adjani as Antonieta Rivas Mercado, the famed Mexican writer who died inside Paris' Notre Dame in 1931. Intrigued by the story of her death, a Parisian novelist (Hanna Schygulla) sets out to learn why the talented writer chose to commit suicide at the legendary cathedral. Director Carlos Saura cuts between past and present in an engrossing and mysterious dramatic film. Spanish with English subtitles. 108 minutes.
