In 1938 during the Spanish Civil War, a Spanish film
crew is invited by Hitler to Nazi Germany's UFA Studios in Berlin to film a
popular musical. Eager to leave their war-torn country, the cast and crew
head to Germany, where they are impressed by the fine studio and the
charming Germans. But, their hosts' initial hospitality wanes when the
beautiful star (Penelope Cruz), who has become the object of Nazi Propaganda
Minister Josef Goebbels' affections, befriends a concentration camp prisoner
and tries to help him escape. Features a cameo by Hanna Schygulla as
Goebbel's wife. From the director of Belle Epoque. The winner of 7
