Subtitled "A Tale of Ham and Passion", this film is a sexy little comedy that uses food as a metaphor for conspicuous sexual appetites.  Silvia (Penelope Cruz) is the daughter of the town whore.  She is in love with Manuel (Juan Diego), whose parents own the only industry in town, an underwear factory.  Manuel's mother, Conchita (Stefania Sandrelli) cannot tolerate the idea of her son marrying the daughter of a prostitute, and so she hires Raul (Javier Bardem), the studly underwear model to seduce Silvia away from Manuel. The use of wide-angle shots and unadorned location footage gives this film a rawness that strikes a nice balance with all the absurdity of the comedy.Jamon, Jamon won the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival (1992). Color.
