Sixten Sparre (Thommy Berggren) is an aristocratic army officer who abandons a promising career for a rapturous affair with Elvira (Pia Degermark), a tightrope artist, in this modern classic. Against the beautiful Swedish countryside as a background, they are promptly ostracized for breaking the moral code and the film ends tragically. Lyrical, nostalgic and moving, with beautiful use of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21. Swedish with English subtitles.
