"The Outlaw and His Wife"

Directed by Victor Sjostrom

Victor Sjostrom's 1917 story takes place in Iceland during the 19th century, and is the story of a farmer hunted by the police for a petty crime, who, with his wife, must flee into the hills.   Eventually the couple, united by their mutual love, succumb to the brutal forces of nature. The great breakthrough film of the Swedish cinema, this version was restored by Bengt Forslund of the Swedish Film Institute is tinted in various hues to suggest location and time of day and is accompanied by a full orchestral score.  109 minutes.
