"Michelangelo: Self
Portrait"
1989/1950
Directed by Robert Snyder/Richard Lyford
Two feature length works about the art and life of
Michelangelo. Michelangelo: A Self-Portrait (Richard Snyder, 1989, 85
mins.) uses the artist's poems, letters and diary entries, interspersed with
images of his works, to tell his life story. The powerful Academy
Award-winning documentary, The Titan: Story of Michelangelo (Richard
Lyford, 1950, 68 mins.), narrated by Fredric March, tells the story of the
artist's life primarily through his art. Adapted in part from Curt Oertel's
Michelangelo: Life of a Titan, with a musical score by the noted
German conductor Alois Melichar. 156 minutes.
