Subtitled "A Tale of Ham and Passion", this film is a sexy little
comedy that uses food as a metaphor for conspicuous sexual appetites. Silvia
(Penelope Cruz) is the daughter of the town
whore. She is in love with Manuel (Juan
Diego), whose parents own the only industry in town, an underwear factory. Manuel's
mother, Conchita (Stefania Sandrelli) cannot tolerate the idea of her son marrying the
daughter of a prostitute, and so she hires Raul (Javier Bardem), the studly underwear
model to seduce Silvia away from Manuel.
The use of wide-angle shots and unadorned location footage gives this film a
rawness that strikes a nice balance with all the absurdity of the comedy.
Jamon, Jamon won the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival (1992).
Runtime: 95 minutes.

"This is the best movie ever. My spanish 4 teacher in
High school gave us extra credit for going to see it. We are only 17 and we understood
every word. It was the funniest thing in the world."

"That was the oddest, most confusing and obsene movie I've ever
seen. The part that scared me the most was when Carmen fucked Gauca. How disgusting! She
was getting off when the bird would say, ""prick"" and she thought
that it would get Jose Luiz all hot and bothered. That movie was warped!"

"bigas luna, unknown in the united states, is a wild, wilm m.f.-er
of a film maker and jamon jamon is the best way to break the ice if you've never seen any
of his films. If you like jamon, jamon, see his other films like ""the tit and
the moon"", ""bilbao"" and the obscene ""ages of
lulu".

"I'm taking hispanic film at MCC in arizona and our teacher recommended this movie to us, I am so glad she did! I thought this was an awesome movie. Although it was a little off the wall I really enjoyed the film and was easy to
follow."

" I'd like to point out that the movie ""Jamon Jamon,"" a pedro almodovar
film, is one of the sketchiest peices of movie making in the history of spainish
film. Anything remotly meaningfull or even a little bit telling of spainish
culture is horibbly obscured by the poorness of the acting, foolishness of the
plot, and the generally trippy cinematografy. Themes like the role of man and
woman, masculinity and the woman's dependence on the man try to poke out of this
haze of stupidity, but one is ultimately distracted by the bizarre sexual
references and lack of subtlety used to convey them. On the other hand, Penelope
Cruz is ridculously good looking, which is one of the few good things about the
film."
