A recently restored classic, Nights of Cabiria is one of Fellini's
finest films. Fellini's wife, Giulietta Masina plays Cabiria Ceccarelli, a feisty,
tom-boyish character who makes her living as a prostitute in Rome. Mistreated and
taken advantage of by almost everybody she encounters, Cabiria retains a fresh naivete and
we grow increasingly close to her. When she meets a man that promises a respectable
future, she falls head over heels. We watch her heart break as she discovers that he
too, has betrayed her.
Equally as fascinating as the story was the location footage which appeared to
be shot around the outskirts of Rome. Pier Paolo Pasolini was credited as one of the
writers for his work on the script, which may be his first film credit received.
Nights of Cabiria won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film (1958). Giulietta
Masina won the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival (1957) for her portrayal of
Cabiria.

"One of the most moving films I've seen for a long time.
Interesting to see a Fellini film so unlike his later work - I also thoroughly agree with
the reviewer's remark that the depiction of Roman scenes from the mid fifties gives the
film an interesting documentary style - an insight into a bygone era. Particularly fine
scene in a fashionable Rome night club."

"The performance by Giulietta Masina is remarkable. She is incredibly expressive,
but somehow puts it all over with a masterful subtlety. Her dancing and facial
expressions are delights."

"the best fellini film I ever saw","""The nights of Cabiria"" was the first and I suppose the best Fellini's film I saw. The reason for that is simply because in this film the great
Italian master tells us about the simple and everlasting things, the pure and eternal human values: sincerety, generousity, kindness, beauty of a human
spirit."

"Excellent!, I'm watching "Nights.." on Bravo TV as I write this.
Giulietta Masina is as wonderful in this as she was in La Strada."
